A campervan hire company known for its controversial discounting methods is offering a day’s free hire –  if customers turn up at their depots naked.

Australian operator Wicked Campers is enticing backpackers keen to save a few dollars into its branches, writing on its website: ‘Come into any of our Wicked locations wearing nothing but a smile and we’ll give you an EXTRA FREE DAY on top of your booking!’

And in a tongue-in-cheek dig at older travellers, it adds: ‘If you are over 50, you can keep your clothes on, we will give you an extra day.’

Naked ambition: Wicked Campers has a reputation for offering less than usual discounting promotions

It seems the rather shocking deal has already been taken up as two topless Swedish girls have been pictured sitting on a van outside the company’s offices in Cairns, Queensland, a popular east coast destination for European travellers.

‘Some people take it a little more literally than others,’ Wicked manager John Laughton told the Cairns Post.

‘They all want to take advantage of cheap rates and if they can get a bit more off they’re going to do it.

‘We get an equal mix of guys and girls (going nude).’

Advert: the company’s website has a range of discounts aimed at younger – and carefree – travellers

Local law enforcement officers said that as long as people were covered up below the waist, being topless was not technically illegal.

The company also offers campervans for hire in cities around Europe including London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Italy and Munich – plus New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, Chile and Africa.

The offer does not appear on the company’s European website.

This is not the first time the company has caught the world’s attention, last year causing outrage when it offered a discount for tourists smoking cannabis.

The deal, ‘valid only for committed stoners’, was slammed by Australian traffic police as ‘highly negligent’.

The website also offers discounts for people in a cult, those who reveal how they lost their virginity and customers who have a ‘vajazzle’ – or intimate body art.
