The new show is set to focus on the lives of people in Merseyside as they go about their daily routine in what creator Tony Wood is comparing to the 1980s Channel 4 soap Brookside. ‘I’m working on a new scripted reality show for ITV1. Is it a reality Brookside? You could call it that. ‘It’s storytelling with real people, a sort of living soap.’

But Wood is set to face competition from other reality shows based in the Northern city as MTV are currently in the progress of creating a Liverpudlian version of Geordie Shore called Mersey Shore, as well as E4 planning Desperate Scousewives – a British take on the hugely popular US show Desperate Housewives.

With three new Liverpool-based reality shows on the horizon, there are fears it could fuel stereotypes of people in the city as TV viewers watch Liverpudlians on a daily basis.

Steve Rotherham, local Member of Parliament and former mayor, said: ‘TV programmes about our great city seldom portray the positive side of Liverpool life. ‘I think often simply reinforce the stereotype so I’m not looking forward to it. We’ve got to break this cycle.’
