Kerry Katona was the first celebrity through the doors of the Big Brother house tonight as the reality TV show switched to a new home on Channel 5.

The show also has a new host after regular C4 host Davina McCall bowed out.

Brian Dowling, who won the show in 2001, welcomed viewers with the words: “The waiting is finally over. Your Big Brother is back with a bang.”

Katona, wearing a strapless black dress, told Dowling: “I’m shaking like a leaf.

“I’m really, really nervous.”

After she went inside, Katona was heard to exclaim: “Bloody hell, this is lovely! Wowee.”

American Pie actress Tara Reid was the next housemate to arrive, wearing a short black dress and high heels.

Reid, who is reported to have got married earlier this month, was asked by Dowling if this was her honeymoon.

“Let find out,” she said, adding that she was “a fun girl” before heading inside.

Paddy Doherty, of Channel 4’s My Big fat Gypsy Wedding, was next in.

“I’ll just see how it goes,” he said when asked how he would cope living under the control of Big Brother.

“I’m just here for the craic.”

Glamour girl Amy Childs, from ITV2’s The Only Way Is Essex, was the fourth housemate to arrive, wearing a sparkling strapless dress.

The beauty therapist told Dowling “I’m the vajazzle queen”, referring to the intimate crystal designs which she applies to her clients, but said she had not done her own decoration before entering.

Dowling asked if she had packed her vajazzle kit and was told: “You never know. You have got to wait and see.”

Childs said she would not rule out finding romance in the house.

Photo agency boss Darryn Lyons arrived next, wearing a gold jacket and trousers and with his Mohican haircut dyed fuchsia pink.

Lyons claimed that beneath the flamboyant exterior he was shy but warned he did not suffer people he did not like.

Sally Bercow, the wife of House of Commons Speaker John Bercow, admitted her husband did not entirely approve of her decision to take part.

“He’s not exactly chuffed about it,” she told Dowling.

“He wasn’t very pleased but he does know what I’m like.

“He respects the fact that I do my own thing.”

In the film shown before her arrival, she had said: “I hope he doesn’t divorce me over it.”

She said her decision was to prove she was a person in her own right: “I am not my husband.”

“I want to stick two fingers up to the Establishment, who think it’s not the sort of thing I should do,” she said.

Bercow admitted “it’s going to raise a few eyebrows in Parliament” but said her appearance would raise £100,000 for the charity Ambitious About Autism.

Lucien Laviscount, who played Sophie Webster’s love interest, Ben Richardson, in Coronation Street, said he hoped people would think he was “a cool guy”.

The actor, who has also appeared in Grange Hill and Waterloo Road, said his mother had packed his bag for the house.

He said he was up for romance in the house and was looking for a woman who was “cool” and “fun”.

David Hasselhoff’s former wife Pamela Bach Hasselhoff, who also starred in Baywatch, danced to the show’s theme tune on the runway before entering the house.

She laughed and joked with Dowling before climbing carefully up the stairs in gold platform high heels, pulling down the back of her short black and gold dress.

Model Bobby Sabel was another housemate who said he would not rule out a Big Brother romance.

Sabel, dressed down in a coat over casual trousers, a T-shirt and white trainers, said he was “a car crash” where women were concerned and never said the right things.

The final housemates to go inside were Jedward – twins John and Edward Grimes – who cartwheeled down the runway.

The fast-talking pair found fame on the 2009 series of The X Factor and went on to represent Ireland in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Tonight, the tall-haired twins wore tiger-print tailed jackets, black leggings and trainers with pandas’ heads on as they bounced into the house.

They told Dowling they had packed a lot of hairspray to keep their hair upright and used a can a day.

The pair received a huge cheer from the crowd and said: “It’s great that our fans are here.”
